Water flows at the rate of 10 m per minute through a cylindrical pipe 5 mm of diameter. How much time would it take to fill a conical vessel whose diameter at the surface is 40 cm and depth is 24 cm?

Volume that flows in 1 min = [π × (0.25)2 × 1000] cm3

Volume of the conical vessel = 1/3π × (20)2 × 24 cm3

Required time = 1/3π × (20)2 × 24/π × (0.25)2 × 10000

= 51 min 12 sec.
